BEST SUNDAY LUNCH

ALBERTA’S
Winner

You’ll find Alberta’s at the Windmill pub, a great spot to kick off a Sunday lunch with Jersey oysters, followed by classic roasts such as a charcoal-grilled sharing sirloin cooked on the bone, Sussex pork cuts (pork belly, croquettes and sausage) or a veggie pie.

The star of the Sunday menu is the whole local Southern-fried chicken, served with all the trimmings. Indulgent sides like barbecued cabbage with seaweed butter and chicken skin furikake are a must, as is the Viennetta affogato to round things off.

EMBERS
Runner up

A large open kitchen with flaming grills provides the theatre at this casual Lanes restaurant. Menus change seasonally, but you can expect such classics as roasted pork belly Sussex beef rump, or baked onion with roasted beetroot and pumpkin seed stuffing (vegans are very well catered for here!). And if your table is up for a challenge, the Four Beast Feast is the one to order.

All platters come with seasonal sides, such as skillet roasted potatoes, cauliflower cheese purée, charred greens and wood-fired autumn veg.
